Aerowave inflatable catamaran under way on open water
Owner stories

Nobody rings us about fabric. They ring us about the day it went wrong.

Twelve of the calls we take most often. Lifted seams forty minutes offshore. A tube gone soft on a beach landing. A good boat that never left the garage. Under each one, plainly: what we changed so it doesn't happen on ours.

The problem
Thin, glued hulls

Seams that lift and fabric that chalks out in three to seven seasons.

What we do

Thermo-welded seams, 1500 GSM / 1.2 mm VALMEX® Heavy Plus, 10–12 year life.

The problem
Too hard to use

Trailers, ramps, rego queues and forty minutes of rigging.

What we do

Packs into a bag, fits a boot, on the water in about fifteen minutes.

The problem
No one to call

Faceless sellers, no parts, no manual, no answer.

What we do

Australian marine team, parts in AU and our hub, DHL Express to your door.

The problem
Surprise costs

Freight and regional charges that appear after the deposit.

What we do

Freight included on boat pages. Published regional and remote rates.

Twelve days that ended a boat.

Composite accounts drawn from recurring owner complaints. Details changed — we've heard every one of these more than once.

Story 01 · Seam failurePittwater, NSW

He heard it go before he felt it.

Forty minutes out, kids sitting on the bow. The glued seam along the port tube had started to lift — not a puncture, the seam itself. Three summers old, most of them spent sitting in the sun.

He got home on one tube and a lot of throttle. The boat went in the shed and never came back out.

A boat written off in its third season, and a family that stopped asking to go out.

How an Aerowave fixes this
  • Our hulls aren't glued. Every seam is thermo-welded in a four-step heat process, so there's no adhesive to go brittle, peel or creep in the heat.
  • Premium hulls run 1500 GSM / 1.2 mm VALMEX® Heavy Plus — German fabric with a 10–12 year service life, not a three-summer one.
The outcome

You stop watching the tubes and start watching the kids. That's the whole point of the boat.

Story 02 · Beach abrasionSouth coast, NSW

Same landing he'd done a hundred times.

Sand, then a shelf of rock with a bit of growth on it that only shows at the bottom of the tide. He pulled her up the last couple of metres the way everyone does.

Twenty minutes later the starboard tube was going soft. Four hours waiting on a mate with a bigger boat, and a repair quote that was most of what the boat was worth.

One landing, one repair bill, and no confidence left for the next one.

How an Aerowave fixes this
  • Nobody carries their boat up the beach — everyone drags. So the underside is built for it: 1.2 mm VALMEX® on the premium hulls, with reinforced rubbing strakes and keel protection where the wear actually happens.
  • Beach wheel kits are standard practice here, not an afterthought, so the hull rolls off the sand instead of scraping across it.
The outcome

Land where you like, at any tide, and stop planning your day around where the ramp is.

Story 03 · Never usedA garage in Brisbane

Best boat he ever owned barely got wet.

Rego, a reverse down the ramp with a queue behind him, forty minutes of rigging before anyone got a line in. So it stopped happening.

Trailer, then a tarp, then a For Sale sign. Nothing wrong with the boat. The problem was everything between Saturday morning and being on the water.

Four trips a year on an asset that cost him every weekend he didn't take.

How an Aerowave fixes this
  • The whole boat packs into a bag that fits a wagon boot or a ute tray. No trailer, no ramp queue, no reversing with an audience.
  • High-pressure hand pump to full working pressure, and you're floating. Most owners are on the water inside fifteen minutes of parking.
The outcome

The boat you actually use beats the boat you own. Ours gets used because getting going isn't a project.

Story 04 · Loss of trustOff Moreton Bay, QLD

He couldn't really explain why he'd stopped going.

The boat still floated and the motor still ran. But there was a patch on the transom corner and a soft spot he topped up twice a day.

It played on his mind every time the land got small behind him. He never said any of that out loud until he rang us about a replacement.

The quiet kind of failure — the boat works, but you don't trust it, so you don't go.

How an Aerowave fixes this
  • Multiple independent air chambers plus a welded, sealed transom join, so a single problem is never the whole boat.
  • CE certified to ISO 6185-3 and EU Directive 2013/53/EU — the same standard European commercial operators buy to.
The outcome

You point the bow at the horizon without doing arithmetic about how far you can swim.

Story 05 · Oyster leasesHawkesbury River, NSW

The tender kissed a pylon on the way in.

Half a metre of oyster growth on the leg of the jetty, a bit of swell, and the bow tube brushed it. Not hard — the kind of contact that happens every second trip in that water.

By the time he'd tied up, the fabric had opened along the scrape. The tender spent the rest of the season deflated on the back deck.

A mothership with no way to get ashore, for the rest of the summer.

How an Aerowave fixes this
  • The 1.2 mm hull carries roughly a third more material through the wear layer than a 0.9 mm boat, and it's a coated German fabric, not a laminate that delaminates.
  • Rubbing strakes run the full length of the tube and around the bow, exactly where pylons and leases make contact.
The outcome

Your tender takes the knocks that come with real moorings, and it's still inflated in March.

Story 06 · UV and heatWhitsundays, QLD

Two seasons in the tropics and the fabric had gone chalky.

Stored on davits, uncovered, north Queensland sun. The colour faded first, then the surface started to powder off under a thumbnail.

By the third year the tube walls had gone stiff and the seams were the first thing to complain.

A hull that aged in two summers what it should have taken a decade to do.

How an Aerowave fixes this
  • VALMEX® is UV-stabilised marine coated fabric built for exposed commercial use, not a budget PVC that chalks out.
  • Owners in the tropics can step up to the Orca Hypalon hull upgrade where the boat lives permanently uncovered.
The outcome

A hull that still looks and feels the same at year eight as it did at year one.

Story 07 · Chop and stabilityPort Phillip Bay, VIC

The afternoon southerly turned a good day into a wet one.

Flat at eight, half a metre of short chop by two. In a soft round-tube boat that means slamming, spray over the bow, and everyone hanging on rather than fishing.

They came home early. Then they came home early the next three trips too.

A boat that only worked on perfect mornings, in a country that mostly doesn't have them.

How an Aerowave fixes this
  • Catamaran hulls track through chop on two sponsons instead of pounding on one — a dry, level ride at speed and a deck that stays flat at rest.
  • The 380 mm transom keeps the prop buried, so no ventilation or cavitation when the stern lifts in a following sea.
The outcome

You stay out when the breeze comes up, and you fish standing on a deck that isn't trying to tip you off it.

Story 08 · WeightAdelaide, SA

It took two people to move it, and there was only ever one.

A heavy fibreglass-floored inflatable, a soft-sand car park, and a bloke on his own. He'd sit in the car and talk himself out of it.

The boat was capable. He physically couldn't launch it alone.

A boat that needed a second person who wasn't always available.

How an Aerowave fixes this
  • Air-deck floors and catamaran construction keep dry weight where one adult can handle the boat with a wheel kit.
  • The lighter AeroCat hulls exist for exactly this: solo launch, solo retrieve, no favours required.
The outcome

Go when you want to go, not when someone else is free.

Story 09 · Repairs and partsPerth, WA

He waited eleven weeks for a valve.

A cheap import bought online, then a slow leak from a tube valve. The seller stopped replying. No parts, no manual, no one to call.

The boat sat in the yard through the entire good-weather window.

A whole season lost to a two-dollar part nobody would ship.

How an Aerowave fixes this
  • Replacement parts are held in Australia and at our Hong Kong hub, and go out by DHL Express to your door.
  • You get an Australian marine team on the phone — Gary on sales, Craig on technical — not a chatbot and a contact form.
The outcome

A small problem stays a small problem, and it's fixed inside a week.

Story 10 · Buying blindGold Coast, QLD

First-time buyer, and he had no idea what he was looking at.

Every listing said heavy duty. Every listing said marine grade. Nobody would put a fabric weight or a thickness next to it, and the prices were all over the map.

He picked on price, because there was nothing else to pick on. Three years later he rang us.

Learning the difference between 0.9 mm and 1.2 mm the expensive way.

How an Aerowave fixes this
  • We publish both numbers together, always: 1500 GSM / 1.2 mm VALMEX® Heavy Plus on premium hulls, 1100 GSM / 0.9 mm VALMEX® on the AeroCat range.
  • Two tiers, both ours, both German fabric — so you're choosing a spec on purpose instead of guessing at one.
The outcome

You know exactly what you bought, why it costs what it costs, and how long it should last.

Story 11 · Freight surprisesDarwin, NT

The boat was cheap. Getting it here wasn't.

An interstate purchase where the freight quote arrived after the deposit did. Then a second invoice for the regional leg.

By the time it landed, the bargain had stopped being one.

Hundreds in charges that were never on the page he bought from.

How an Aerowave fixes this
  • Freight is included in the price on our boat pages — the number you see is the number you pay to the door.
  • Express air delivery runs 7–14 days with the customer share stated up front, and regional and remote rates are published, not invented after the sale.
The outcome

One price, one invoice, no phone call about extra money.

Story 12 · Resale and longevityTasmania

Six years old and worth nothing.

He kept it clean, kept it covered, kept it serviced. It still had lifted seams, a tired transom and fabric that had gone hard.

Nobody wanted it. He couldn't even give it away as a tender.

Full purchase price divided by six seasons — the most expensive way to own a boat.

How an Aerowave fixes this
  • A 10–12 year fabric life on the premium hulls, with welded seams that don't have an adhesive failure point to age toward.
  • Backed by warranty cover up to seven years on the Viper Sovereign, five on the rest of the range.
The outcome

The boat is still worth something when you're finished with it — and you're finished with it much later.

Aerowave inflatable catamaran on calm water

Every one of these started the same way.Someone bought on price and found out later.

We don't sell you a hull. We sell you the Saturday where nothing goes wrong — the landing you don't think twice about, the boat that's in the boot on Friday night, the trip where the only thing on your mind is where the fish are.
