Hear it from us

“Australian weekends are too short to spend them patching a thin hull. We build ours thick, price them landed, and pick up the phone when you call.”

The 5 things that wreck an inflatable boat purchase — and how we stop each one

Here is why cheap inflatable boats fail.
We fixed every one of them.

Seams burst after a hot day. One branch or oyster puts a hole in a thin hull. The bottom wears through from beach launches. The transom rattles loose. And then the import bill turns a fair price into a bad one. That is what kills most inflatable boat purchases — and every Aerowave answers each one, right down to how it reaches your door.

Built for this

1500 GSM / 1.2 mm VALMEX® Heavy Plus hull

Same water, same abuse — a decade of it.

01

Left in the sun, tubes drum-tight

Heat expands the air inside the tubes and pushes a hull past its rated pressure — that is when seams let go, welded or glued. Every Aerowave has over-pressure relief valves fitted as standard: the boat bleeds off the excess itself while you are up at the shops.

02

A mooring pole or a submerged branch at slow speed

Hit something at any speed in a 0.9 mm hull and it will pop — a long tear and a repair bill in the thousands. Ours is 1500 GSM / 1.2 mm VALMEX® Heavy Plus, with Orca Hypalon available, so a strike that ends someone else's season is a scuff on ours. That is how you get 10–12 years out of a boat.

03

Dragging it up the beach

Shells, gravel and ramp concrete chew straight through a thin underside. Every Aerowave has an extra protection layer bonded along the underside of the tubes and keel, so hauling it up the sand is just how you finish the day — not a risk you take.

04

A transom that shakes itself loose

Tube-framed transoms let a four-stroke vibrate eight wear points through the fabric. Ours is a bonded full-width 380 mm powder-coated aluminium transom — no vibration, no wear points, and more prop in the water so it stops ventilating in chop.

05

The import bill that lands after you have already paid

From 1 August 2026 delivery is included in the price of every boat and boat package. In Australia your price is fully landed — freight, GST, import duty and customs clearance are paid before your boat ships. On the 16 international lanes to the right we pay the express air freight in full. Door-to-door transit is 7–10 days once the express waybill is live, and your tracking link comes from the freight forwarder about 2 business days after the boat leaves the factory. One price, no freight line, no hidden freight charge.

The only thing we cannot waive is import duty and VAT/GST, set by the local government. On DDU lanes — New Zealand, United Kingdom, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Vietnam and the Solomon Islands — those charges are still settled with the carrier on arrival.

How it works
Real days on the water

Nobody remembers the spec sheet from years ago. Everybody remembers the day it went wrong.

Four of the calls we get most often. Details changed, but we've heard every one of these more than once. None of them open with a question about fabric.

Story 01Pittwater, NSW

He heard it before he felt it.

Seam failure, third summer

Flat day. Kids sitting on the bow. Forty minutes from the ramp. Then a noise like a zip going down the side of the boat.

It wasn't a hole. The seam itself was peeling open. Third summer. The boat had spent most of its life in the sun beside the house.

He turned around and came home on one tube, hand on his son's lifejacket the whole way. Nobody said much. The boat went in the shed that afternoon and stayed there.

He didn't want a better spec sheet. He wanted to stop watching the tubes while his kids sat on them.

Story 02South coast, NSW

Same landing he'd done a hundred times.

Beach landing, low tide

Sand first, then that shelf of rock that only shows at low tide. He dragged her up the last couple of metres, same as always.

Twenty minutes later the starboard tube was soft and the esky was sliding off it.

Four hours on the sand waiting for a mate with a bigger boat. Wife not talking. Kids over it. The repair quote came in at nearly what the boat was worth, so he never got it fixed.

Nobody carries their boat up the beach. Everyone drags. The fabric either takes that or it doesn't.

Story 03A garage in Brisbane

Best boat he ever owned barely got wet.

Four trips a year

Rego. Reversing down the ramp with a queue behind him. Forty minutes of rigging before anyone got a line in the water.

So it stopped happening. Trailer, then a tarp, then a For Sale sign.

Nothing wrong with the boat. The problem was everything between Saturday morning and being on the water.

The boat you actually use beats the boat you own.

Story 04Off Moreton Bay, QLD

He stopped asking his boy if he wanted to come.

Stopped taking his son

The motor was fine. The boat still floated. But there was a patch on the transom corner and a soft spot he topped up morning and night.

Every time the land got small behind him, he'd start working out how far he'd have to swim.

So he'd find a reason not to go. Lawn needed mowing. Bit windy. After a while his boy stopped asking.

He only said that out loud when he rang us about a new boat. That part never shows up on an invoice.

So — how will you use yours?

Start with your Saturday — where you launch, who's aboard, how far from home. Tell us that and we'll show you the boat that fits.

We take the family out every weekend now. Rides like a dream and packs down small enough for the garage.

Worth every dollar. Loaded it up with the family and gear and it cruised the bay all day. The Bimini saved us from the sun.

Everything skippersask before they buy.

Warranty, registration, finance, delivery and the bits in between. Can't see your question? The crew is one call away.

Because of what is inside them. Most inflatables — including some expensive ones — are built in 1100 GSM / 0.9 mm VALMEX®. Every Aerowave hull is built in 1500 GSM / 1.2 mm VALMEX® Heavy Plus: roughly a third more material in every panel, rated 10–12 years. Every boat is custom-built to your order rather than pulled off a container, the 380 mm transom is laid up and finished to commercial specification, and over-pressure relief valves are fitted as standard so heat cannot push the hull past its rated pressure and open seams.

That is the price difference, and it is the whole difference. A hull that has to be replaced inside two or three seasons is not the cheaper boat — it is the boat you buy twice. If you want the longest-life hull we make, 1.2 mm Orca Hypalon is available as an upgrade on every model.
