Every Viper runs 1500 GSM / 1.2mm Heavy Duty Plus VALMEX — 33% more material than the 1100 decitex / 0.9mm hulls this class is built from. It costs a little more to build, and that is exactly what you are buying: more fabric per square metre, and a hull that lasts a decade instead of a few seasons. That extra thickness means awesome durability: a 10–12 year life expectancy, and up to 15 years when well looked after. That's why we back every Viper with a 5 + 2 year warranty — and why thinner 0.9mm hulls simply can't match it. Every model also carries heat-protected over-inflation valves to stop seams blowing out on 45-degree-plus days — a safety feature most competitors don't supply. That's the point of difference.

1500 GSM / 1.2mm Heavy Duty Plus VALMEX

GSM is the fabric's weight per square metre — 1500 GSM means 1,500 grams of German VALMEX® in every square metre of tube. Thirty-three per cent more material than a 1100 decitex / 0.9mm hull, built for 10–12 years in Australian sun.

Over-inflation valves (every model)

Heat-protected valves stop seams blowing out on 45-degree-plus days. Most competitors don't fit these.

Read the units carefully. Decitex (dtex) describes the yarn in the scrim, not how much fabric you get — a 1100 dtex cloth at 0.9 mm is still a 0.9 mm cloth. The numbers that matter for abrasion are millimetres of thickness and grams per square metre. Ours is 1.2 mm / 1500 GSM; both competitors are 0.9 mm. Lighter fabric packs smaller, which is exactly how it is marketed — the trade-off shows up on a submerged branch, an oyster lease or a rocky ramp. Fabric is the only part of an inflatable you cannot upgrade later.

A boat left on a trailer on a 40-degree day keeps building pressure until something lets go. A relief valve on every chamber vents it before a seam does — we fit them to every tube chamber, and one of the two other brands here fits none at all.
