One number decides whether an inflatable boat is still in service in ten years, and it is not the length, the horsepower or the badge. It is the thickness of the fabric between your family and the water.

German VALMEX PVC. A genuine fabric, honestly priced when it is honestly described. We use it on the AeroCat range and we tell you it is 0.9 mm on the product page.

1500 GSM · 1.2 mm
German VALMEX Heavy Plus, on every Viper and Sovereign hull. Roughly 30% more material in exactly the place boats wear out, and a realistic 10–12 year fabric life under Australian UV.
Five things we will say out loud
We are not going to name anyone. We do not need to — the numbers are on the invoice, or they are not.

The hull fabric is the boat.
Length, horsepower rating, seat count, badge — none of it matters if the tube gives up in year four. Ask for GSM and millimetres together, in writing, on the invoice. If a seller can only give you one number, or none, you already have your answer.

0.9 mm is a real fabric. It is just not a ten-year fabric.
We build the AeroCat range on German VALMEX 1100 decitex / 0.9 mm and we say so on the page, because it is honestly priced for what it is. What we object to is 0.9 mm sold as if it were something else, at a price that suggests it is.

Boats do not fail dramatically. They fail on a Sunday.
Shell grit in the sand on the pull-up. A mooring pile with growth on it. The eighth summer of UV on a pontoon. Nobody's boat explodes. The weekend just ends at nine in the morning, and two seasons later you realise you bought the same boat twice.

The price should be the price.
Freight that appears after you have paid, duty nobody mentioned, a delivery bill at the door with a card reader in hand — that is not a logistics problem, it is a disclosure problem. Australian delivery is in our price. Outside Australia, duty and local VAT/GST are set by the local government and we tell you before you order, not after.

A dealership floor is a real cost, and you pay for it.
Around A$7,000 and up is broadly the same class of boat with a showroom, a floorplan and a badge stacked on top. We sell factory-direct and sit in the middle band deliberately. Not because we are cheap — because there is no dealer margin in the number.

"Typical 0.9 mm import" describes the common specification class sold in Australia, not any particular brand or retailer. Always confirm the fabric spec in writing with whoever you buy from.

How long is the hull warranty?
Years on the hull specifically — and exactly what voids it.
What is my landed price?
All in, to my door. Freight, duty, delivery. Any bill after I pay?

The questions we actually get asked about the 1.2 Rule, answered the way we would answer them on the phone.
- What does 1.2 mm actually mean on an inflatable boat hull?
- It is the finished thickness of the tube fabric — the coated PVC laminate, scrim and all. Our Viper and Sovereign hulls use German VALMEX Heavy Plus at 1500 GSM / 1.2 mm. The common class sold in Australia is 1100 decitex / 0.9 mm, which is roughly a third less material in exactly the place a hull wears out. Always ask for GSM and millimetres together: one number on its own tells you very little.
- Is 0.9 mm fabric bad?
- No. It is a genuine German VALMEX fabric and we build the AeroCat 330, 360 and 380 on it, because it packs smaller and is honestly priced for what it is. The problem is 0.9 mm sold as though it were something heavier, at a price that suggests it is. Read the units carefully — decitex describes the yarn in the scrim, not how much fabric you get.
- How long does each fabric actually last?
- Premium 1500 GSM / 1.2 mm VALMEX Heavy Plus has a realistic field life of 10–12 years under normal Australian UV with proper care. The lighter 1100 decitex / 0.9 mm class is a shorter-service-life fabric, typically 3–7 years depending on UV exposure, storage and how hard it is used.
- What warranty comes with each hull?
- The Aerowave Viper Series (Viper 330, 365, Sport 400, Sovereign 400, 430 and 450) carries a 5–7 year limited hull warranty — it is the only range with the extended years 6 and 7. The Sport Series, WaveRunner Series 3 and AeroCat Series carry a 5-year limited hull warranty. Hidea outboards are covered by Hidea's own 5-year (3+2) structure.
- Can I get something tougher than 1.2 mm VALMEX?
- Yes. Every boat can be built in ORCA Hypalon, the RIB industry standard, as a A$1,900 upgrade. It is the best UV and chemical resistance available in this class of boat, and it is the fabric commercial and rescue operators specify.
- Does thicker fabric fix everything?
- No, and we would not claim it. Fabric decides abrasion resistance and service life. Seams decide whether the tube stays together — ours are thermo-welded, not glued. Over-pressure relief valves decide what happens when the boat sits in the sun and the air inside expands. Transom height decides whether the prop stays in the water. Those are four separate problems and we address them separately.
- What should be included in the price?
- Australian delivery is included in our price. For international orders we tell you the duty and local VAT/GST position in writing before you order rather than leaving it to arrive with the carrier. If any seller cannot give you a landed number to your door, treat that as part of the specification, not a detail.
