Match the adhesive to the boat fabric first. A tidy patch with the wrong glue can fail when the tube is under load.

A pinhole, lifting fitting and opening seam are not the same repair. Before buying inflatable boat glue, identify your fabric and the cause of the leak. This guide focuses on adhesive choice and repair limits; our inflatable boat repair guide covers finding leaks and broader maintenance.

What is the best glue for an inflatable boat?

There is no single glue for every inflatable. Flexible PVC boat fabric needs a PVC-compatible inflatable-boat adhesive. Hypalon/CSM fabric needs an adhesive specified for that material. Follow the adhesive maker's instructions for its compatible fabric, cleaner, hardener if required, working time and full cure. Polymarine's PVC guide and Hypalon guide distinguish these systems; a glue labelled for one should not be assumed suitable for the other.

Fabric on your boatStarting pointDo not substitute
PVC-coated inflatable fabricAdhesive specifically rated for flexible PVC inflatable boatsPlumbing pipe cement or household superglue
Hypalon/CSM-coated inflatable fabricHypalon/CSM-compatible inflatable-boat adhesivePVC-only glue unless the maker specifies a validated bonding system
Unknown fabricIdentify it from the maker's documentation or ask a qualified repairerGuessing from colour or age

The word PVC on a tin is not enough: rigid pipe cement is not a default repair adhesive for flexible, pressurised boat fabric. Likewise, not every glue sold as “marine” is designed for inflatable tubes.

How do I identify PVC or Hypalon before gluing?

Look at your boat's model documents, fabric certificate or original supplier information. Do not infer material from a photo, a patch-kit colour or the word “rubber”. Construction can also differ between hull, fittings and floor. If the fabric is unknown or has been coated or previously repaired, get an experienced inflatable-boat repairer to identify the materials.

The AeroCat 330 is specified with 1100 GSM / 0.9 mm VALMEX® fabric. That is a model-specific fact, not a reason to use the same glue on every brand or every part of a boat. Check your own model's paperwork first.

How do you glue a small inflatable boat patch?

1. Locate the actual leak

Use the maker's approved leak-finding method and inspect the valve, nearby seams and fittings. A loose valve or failed seam is not fixed by covering the nearest bubble with a patch. Deflate and dry the area before planning a repair.

2. Prepare the correct materials

Use a fabric-compatible patch, the specified adhesive, and the cleaning and surface-preparation products in that adhesive's instructions. Work in a ventilated area, away from ignition sources; read the safety sheet. Do not automatically sand a PVC coating: preparation differs by adhesive and fabric. Follow the maker's instructions, not a generic internet recipe.

3. Apply, cure and test to the maker's procedure

Mark the patch position and use the adhesive's exact coat, tack and pressure procedure. Respect its stated temperature and humidity limits and full cure time before reinflating or taking the boat on the water. Test the repair after curing and inspect it again under normal pressure. Do not promise a universal number of hours: adhesives differ.

For detailed leak diagnosis and decisions beyond adhesive choice, read how to repair an inflatable boat.

How do I remove old glue from an inflatable boat?

Stop before using a strong solvent or scraping away the coating. The safe method depends on the old adhesive, fabric and manufacturer. Get the adhesive maker's removal instructions, test only as directed on an inconspicuous area, and avoid cutting into the reinforcing fabric. If old glue covers a large area, the coating peels, or you cannot identify the previous adhesive, use a specialist. Adding new glue over an unstable bond does not repair the underlying problem.

When should a repairer handle it instead?

  • The seam is separating, rather than a small isolated puncture.
  • The transom, lifting point or other loaded fitting is moving.
  • The fabric is delaminating, badly weathered or repeatedly leaking.
  • A previous repair is failing or the material cannot be identified.
  • You cannot confidently follow the adhesive's preparation and cure instructions.

A failed structural repair at sea is not worth saving the cost of a professional inspection. A welded seam also is not made new by wiping glue along its edge. Learn the distinction in our welded-versus-glued seam guide.

Find the right next step

If you are assessing a repair, start with your boat's fabric specification and the adhesive maker's instructions. For replacement parts, browse inflatable boat accessories and confirm compatibility before buying. If you are weighing a repeatedly repaired hull against a new boat, compare the current AeroCat 330 and other inflatable catamarans on their own model pages. Who am I actually buying from?
Easy Inflatables, Avoca Beach NSW 2251, Australia. ABN 96 856 548 613. Sean is the owner and skipper, Gary Stewart handles sales on +61 2 4335 1603, Karen Matthews handles email. The boats are Australian designed; international orders ship from our Hong Kong dispatch hub so your landed price stays competitive. Phone us before you pay a cent — a real person answers.
Is this really an Australian product?
Yes — Australian designed and engineered on the NSW Central Coast. Manufacturing is done offshore to our spec, and international orders ship direct from our Hong Kong dispatch hub. If we routed every boat through Australia first, the freight alone would roughly double or triple your cost for the same hull.
What do I pay, and what is not included?
The delivery and import terms depend on your country. EU, UK, New Zealand and named Asia/Pacific lanes include duty and tax; US freight is free but US buyers pay import charges on arrival. Other destinations show their terms before payment.
How do I pay safely?
Card through Stripe (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Apple Pay, Google Pay) or bank transfer. Card payments carry your bank's own dispute protection. We never ask for crypto, gift cards or payment to a personal account.
What if it arrives damaged?
Every boat ships fully tracked and insured door to door. Photograph the carton and the boat on arrival and email us — transit damage is claimed and replaced through us, not left with you and the courier.
Is the warranty real outside Australia?
Yes. The 7-year hull warranty on 1.2 mm VALMEX Heavy Plus and Orca Hypalon hulls applies wherever you are. Replacement parts are held in Australia and at our overseas hub and go out by express courier to your door.
Is the boat actually certified?
All Aerowave catamarans are CE certified to ISO 6185-3 and EU Directive 2013/53/EU. Certification paperwork is supplied with the boat — ask and we will send it before you order.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best glue for inflatable boats?
Choose an inflatable-boat adhesive specified for the exact fabric: flexible PVC or Hypalon/CSM. Follow the adhesive manufacturer’s preparation and curing instructions; no single glue is right for every boat.
Can I use PVC pipe glue on an inflatable boat?
Do not assume rigid-pipe cement is suitable for flexible pressurised boat fabric. Use adhesive specifically specified for the boat’s fabric and intended repair.
Can I use PVC adhesive on a Hypalon boat?
Do not use a PVC-only adhesive on Hypalon/CSM unless its manufacturer provides a validated system for that combination. Identify both materials first.
How do I glue an inflatable boat patch?
Find the leak, identify the fabric, deflate and dry it, use a compatible patch and adhesive, follow that maker’s surface-preparation and application procedure, then wait for full cure and test.
How do I remove old glue from an inflatable boat?
Use the adhesive and boat maker’s fabric-specific removal guidance. Avoid scraping through the coating or experimenting with solvents; ask a specialist if the old adhesive is unknown or widespread.
How long should inflatable boat glue cure?
Cure time depends on the adhesive, temperature and humidity. Follow the particular product’s full-cure instructions before pressure testing or launching.
Can I glue a leaking inflatable boat seam myself?
An opening seam or loaded fitting may need professional assessment and repair. A small puncture is different; do not treat a structural seam as a simple patch job.
