Read owner storiesA big-brand 9.9 HP four-stroke in an Australian dealership is often two to three times the price of a value-brand equivalent. The question every buyer asks โ usually quietly, because nobody wants to be the person who bought the cheap motor โ is what that extra money actually pays for.
Here is the straight answer, including the parts that favour the big brands.
What the premium genuinely buys
Dealer density. Big brands have workshops in more towns. If you boat somewhere remote and you want a branded service agent within 30 minutes, that has real value.
Resale. A recognised badge sells faster secondhand and holds a higher number. If you flip engines every two years, factor it in.
Decades of running data. Long production runs mean known failure points and a big pool of used parts.
Those are legitimate advantages. Anyone who tells you the badge buys nothing is selling something.
What the premium does not buy
It does not buy a longer warranty. Our four-strokes carry a 5-year (3 + 2) warranty. Compare that line-for-line with what you are offered elsewhere before you accept that more money means more cover.
It does not automatically buy modern technology. Fuel injection, oil-pressure and temperature alarms, lithium-battery electric start and thermostatically controlled cooling are on our 20 HP and 30 HP EFI models as standard โ not as an upgrade tier.
It does not buy parts availability in Australia. That depends entirely on who is importing and whether they hold stock. We hold parts support in Melbourne. Ask any seller, of any brand, the same question: where are the parts, and how fast can I get one?
It does not buy reliability by itself. A well-serviced value four-stroke will outlast a neglected premium one every time. Flushing, oil changes and fuel discipline matter far more than the badge โ see outboard servicing costs and schedule.
How to judge any outboard properly
Ask these seven questions of every motor you consider, ours included:
- Warranty โ how many years, and what exactly is covered in years four and five?
- Parts โ held in Australia, or ordered from overseas per claim?
- Weight โ can you physically lift and mount it? (Our 6 HP is 27 kg, the 9.9 HP 41.6 kg, the 15 HP 53.4 kg, the 30 HP EFI 107 kg.)
- Shaft length โ does the 15" or 20" option match your transom?
- Fuel delivery โ EFI or carburettor, and does your usage pattern suit it?
- What is in the box โ is the fuel tank, line and fittings included, or extra?
- Delivery โ is freight included in the price you were quoted, or added later?
A seller who answers all seven plainly is worth buying from. One who deflects on parts and warranty is not, whatever the badge says.
Our range and what it costs
| Model | Price from |
|---|---|
| 6 HP four-stroke | A$1,450 |
| 9.9 HP four-stroke | A$3,800 |
| 15 HP four-stroke | A$4,244 |
| 20 HP EFI | A$4,889 |
| 30 HP EFI | A$7,890 |
All prices in Australian dollars, all with the 5-year (3 + 2) warranty and Melbourne parts support. Capital-city delivery is flat rate and quoted before you pay; remote and island destinations are quoted on application.
Matching the motor to the boat
Horsepower is decided by the hull, not the budget. Every boat in our inflatable range lists a maximum rated horsepower, and the honest recommendation is usually one step below the maximum rather than at it โ you get better economy, better handling and less strain on the transom.
If you would rather talk it through than read spec tables, call +61 2 4335 1603. Tell us the boat, the usual load and where you launch, and we will tell you which motor fits โ including when the smaller, cheaper one is the right answer.

- Who am I actually buying from?
- Easy Inflatables, Avoca Beach NSW 2251, Australia. ABN 96 856 548 613. Sean is the owner and skipper, Gary Stewart handles sales on +61 2 4335 1603, Karen Matthews handles email. The boats are Australian designed; international orders ship from our Hong Kong dispatch hub so your landed price stays competitive. Phone us before you pay a cent โ a real person answers.
- Is this really an Australian product?
- Yes โ Australian designed and engineered on the NSW Central Coast. Manufacturing is done offshore to our spec, and international orders ship direct from our Hong Kong dispatch hub. If we routed every boat through Australia first, the freight alone would roughly double or triple your cost for the same hull.
- What do I pay, and what is not included?
- The delivery and import terms depend on your country. EU, UK, New Zealand and named Asia/Pacific lanes include duty and tax; US freight is free but US buyers pay import charges on arrival. Other destinations show their terms before payment.
- How do I pay safely?
- Card through Stripe (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Apple Pay, Google Pay) or bank transfer. Card payments carry your bank's own dispute protection. We never ask for crypto, gift cards or payment to a personal account.
- What if it arrives damaged?
- Every boat ships fully tracked and insured door to door. Photograph the carton and the boat on arrival and email us โ transit damage is claimed and replaced through us, not left with you and the courier.
- Is the warranty real outside Australia?
- Yes. The 7-year hull warranty on 1.2 mm VALMEX Heavy Plus and Orca Hypalon hulls applies wherever you are. Replacement parts are held in Australia and at our overseas hub and go out by express courier to your door.
- Is the boat actually certified?
- All Aerowave catamarans are CE certified to ISO 6185-3 and EU Directive 2013/53/EU. Certification paperwork is supplied with the boat โ ask and we will send it before you order.
Frequently asked questions
- Are value-brand outboards reliable?
- A well-serviced value four-stroke will outlast a neglected premium one. What matters is warranty terms, parts availability in Australia, and whether the owner flushes, changes oil and manages fuel properly.
- What warranty do your outboards come with?
- A 5-year (3 + 2) warranty with parts support held in Melbourne.
- Do big-brand outboards have better technology?
- Not automatically. Fuel injection, oil pressure and temperature alarms, thermostatic cooling and lithium electric start are standard on our relevant models rather than an upgrade tier.
- What should I ask before buying any outboard?
- Warranty length and cover, where parts are held, dry weight, shaft length options, EFI or carburettor, what is included in the box, and whether delivery is in the quoted price.
- How much do your outboards cost?
- From A$1,450 for the 6 HP, A$3,800 for the 9.9 HP, A$4,244 for the 15 HP, A$4,889 for the 20 HP EFI and A$7,890 for the 30 HP EFI.
- Is resale value worse on a value-brand motor?
- Generally yes โ a recognised badge sells faster secondhand. If you change engines every couple of years, weigh that against the two to three times higher purchase price.
- Where are your parts held?
- In Melbourne, with Australia-wide dispatch. Any competent marine mechanic can carry out servicing and warranty work.
